A social activist , most famously known for establishing the "Dravidar Kazhagam" and also starting the movement anti-caste dravidian movement. the whole plays tribute to periyar on this sunday. whose work is extremley relevant even today date.

periyar was a rationalist, one who belieavd that caste should be eradicated, advocated, from human rights. he also credited the self respect movement, in order to society where disadvantages castes that had equal rights. But both the political parties in tamilnadu, the DMK and AIADMk, owe thier orgins to this movement.
